Experience report from Chloé with Emma, Suzy & Rosa
We love vegan dog food and our great community. True to our slogan ‘You are not alone’, we asked Chloé from our community to share her experiences and impressions with us.
In her experience report, Chloé not only talks about the challenges and prejudices she encountered, but also about the wonderful successes she experienced. From Gilda's miraculous recovery to her happy everyday life with her three adopted dogs.
Chloé: vegan & anti-speciesist
I’ve been vegan and antispeciesist since 15 years, I was born vegetarian I’m now 58 years old. And I’m in excellent health 😉. I've grown up surrounded by other animals, including dogs.In my fight for more justice, it was important that my actions were coherent with my words and thus I couldn’t stand any longer to buy carnist food for my dogs. Therefore I started researching the food that I was giving to my companions and it frightened me. Moreover, we know that dogs biologically are omnivores. I kept reading articles on this subject. Considering the horror of which carnist dog food is composed, a plant based diet seemed so much more adapted. Especially considering that vegan dog food is under high scrutiny and can’t afford to make the least mistake in its composition.
At the same time as I became strictly plant based, I operated a nutritional change for the two dogs who lived with me at the time. One of whom was terribly sick and destined to die. She was 8 years old. Her name was Gilda. Her change of food did her so much good that she lived until the age of 13. My veterinary was very surprised and this convinced him. He follows the treatment of my animals since more than thirty years and sees the positive evolution linked to this change of food.
Prejudices & challenges
People who do not know me, when they learn that my dogs are plant based they judge and criticise my choices pretending that I mistreat them. Making the choice of healthy and adapted food is all but mistreatment, and additionally, one doesn’t kill anyone. In our house, the dogs are considered as persons that we respect and they’re part of the family. We pay attention to their personalities. I’ll never go back on these decisions.
My entourage sees all the benefices of the dogs healthy life and can’t but approve these lifestyle choices.
Emma, Suzy & Rosa
Today we are three humans who share the daily life of three adopted dogs: Emma and Suzy are 7 years old and Rosa 3. When they arrived to our house, I’ve never done any transition. It was too difficult for me to buy dead animals. They became plant based over a day and this has never been a problem. They always have dog food at their disposal. I blend different brands of dog food and they eat them all. Their coexistence is incredible, they never have resource-related conflicts because there’s always a full food bowl and toys available. Regarding the treats, they are vegan as well. We hike a lot and, at the end of the walk, I give them wet dog food which they approve.
They are in excellent health, they were six months old when they came to our house and became plant based.

A little story
One month ago, Rosa, weighing 12 kilos, mounted discretely the kitchen table where she ate half the brioche that was there! In the afternoon, we had an appointment for her vaccines. It was a substitute veterinary who took care of her. We told him about the brioche. He cried out “Oh la la! She’s going to have a sour stomach and diarrhea!”. His assistant who knows that we’re vegan replied to him: “I don’t think so because there’s nothing in their brioche”. Their discussion was funny but edifying. There’s nothing non-digest in our food choices that would make us sick. And, as we imagined, Rosa “la gourmande” wasn’t sick and her poo was beautiful as always which proved it.
