Christmas Dish for Dogs and Humans

Lentil Patties with Pumpkin Puree and Potatoes

1 Daily Serving for a 15kg Dog (33 lb)

Pumpkin, potatoes, lentils, tofu and dog? The perfect combination in winter. And this Christmas recipe is not only delicious for our canine companions, but is also great for filling our tummies. So there's no double effort and we can feast together. Simply omit V-Complete for your plate and everything fits.

The cooked potatoes are an easily digestible source of energy. As potatoes belong to the nightshade family, they contain solanine when raw, which is poisonous in large quantities. They must therefore be cooked before eating.

Lentils and tofu complement each other wonderfully in the patties to provide protein. And the pumpkin is a vibrant splash of colour that adds its delicious sweetness to the dish. So all taste receptors are delighted.

The spices can develop their flavours and digestive properties particularly well as I grind them in the spice mill. This releases the essential oils. But of course you can also do without. I just really enjoy using the grinder.

And off we go with the cooking...

Ingredients

Ingredients

200 g Potatoes
100 g Lentils (dried)
400 g Pumpkin
50 g Smoked Tofu
20 g Coconut Flour
20 g Tomato Paste
20 g Canola Oil
2 g Salt - 125mg per kg Dog
Some Savory
2 Piece(s) Bay Leaf
Some Cumin
Some Nutritional Yeast
Some Lovage

Preparation

Preparation

  • Cook the lentils with a little savoury and bay leaves. I opted for a mix of red and green lentils. However, you can also use just one type.

  • Peel and boil the potatoes.

  • Wash the pumpkin, cut into small pieces and cook with a little water in a closed pan over a low heat. Tip: Add some lovage at the end of the cooking time. This gives the pumpkin a delicious savoury flavour. (Unfortunately, I forgot to add it during the photo shoot 🤫).

  • And very important: Now a short intermediate step: Cuddling with Eddie. I recommend doing this with your favourite dog.

  • Stir the pumpkin once and when the lentils are cooked, pour off the remaining water, remove the bay leaves and leave to cool slightly on a flat plate.

  • Drain the potatoes and pumpkin, mash well with a fork so that they can be easily digested, season with salt and leave to cool slightly.

  • Mash the lentils well with a fork, or if you have a blender, you can also use it to finely puree the lentils.

  • Finely crumble the smoked tofu and add to the lentils. Also add the coconut flour, cumin, tomato paste and nutritional yeast. Mix everything well and shape into bite-sized patties.

  • Now it's time to fry. Heat some of the canola oil in a pan and fry the patties over medium heat until brown and crispy on both sides. Then leave to cool on a plate.

  • Mix the cooled pumpkin puree with V-Complete and the remaining canola oil.

  • The dish is ready to be arranged: Add pumpkin puree to the bowl alongside mashed potatoes and lentil patties.

  • The feast is ready to be savoured.

  • If your dog prefers to enjoy all the flavours in one, you can also stir the dish. Eddie really liked it like this too.
